NRHC Supports White House Affordable Housing Efforts

In June, President Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing. The Council, chaired by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson, aims “to identify and remove the obstacles that impede the production of affordable homes.”

The White House’s focus on this issue is welcome: Affordable housing is a critical challenge facing policymakers all across the country, stemming first and foremost from a shortage of housing supply.

Earlier this month, NRHC and several of our members wrote to Secretary Carson expressing our support for their efforts and offering our insights on how the single-family rental industry can be part of the solution, providing affordable housing to thousands of American families.

From our letter:

Affordable housing is an issue of vital importance to communities across the United States as individuals and families continue to struggle with the challenges of finding a home that provides a suitable quality of life at a reasonable cost. The challenges associated with providing access to affordable housing are also of deep concern to those companies, like ours, involved in the development, management, and ownership of single-family rental homes. For this reason, we were pleased to see the recently issued Executive Order establishing a White House Council on Eliminating Regulatory Barriers to Affordable Housing, and we look forward to the leadership you will bring to this critical issue.
