Washington, D.C. (October 12, 2023) — Housing industry leader, Jerry Howard, has joined the National Rental Home Council (NRHC) as Executive Chairman. Howard, who served for 23 years as CEO of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), brings a wealth of housing industry expertise and insight to NRHC. As Executive Chairman, Howard will provide strategic guidance and counsel to key NRHC leaders and stakeholders, including the board of directors, staff, members, and other constituent groups.
“I am thrilled to join NRHC in the role of Executive Chairman and look forward to contributing to the ongoing growth of the organization,” said Howard. “Single-family rental homes play a vital role in addressing America’s need to provide a greater diversity of housing opportunities, and NRHC is the right organization to lead the industry forward.”
Howard served as CEO of NAHB from 2001 through his retirement in 2023. He also held the positions of tax counsel and Chief Lobbyist at NAHB prior to becoming CEO. Previous to his tenure at NAHB, Howard served as Chief Lobbyist for the National Council of State Housing Agencies, where he was instrumental in the development of the low-income housing tax credit as part of the Tax Reform Act of 1986, and Legislative Analyst for tax issues at the National Association of Realtors.
Before embarking on his association career, Howard practiced real estate law in his home state of South Carolina. His exposure to the housing industry has literally encompassed a lifetime; Howard grew up working in a variety of roles for his father, a developer.
